MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT FOR NEW AND EXPECTING PARENTS

Treehouse Therapy offers psychological support to mothers and fathers during pregnancy and the postpartum period. My name is Rebeka, and I am a psychologist with a special interest in perinatal mental health. As a mother myself, I understand how vulnerable and complex this season can be, and I bring both professional experience and personal understanding to my work.

I work primarily with English-speaking parents, especially expats living in the Netherlands who are navigating parenthood away from their home country.

Areas I support include:

  • Pregnancy-related anxiety and postpartum anxiety
  • Postpartum depression and baby blues that don’t seem to pass
  • Adjustment to parenthood and changes in identity
  • Relationship strain and communication difficulties after having a baby
  • Loneliness, isolation, and the challenges of expat parenthood

You may love your baby deeply while also feeling anxious, exhausted, disconnected, or unlike yourself. You might struggle with guilt, intrusive thoughts, sleep anxiety, or the feeling that you are no longer quite sure who you are. For expat parents, being far from family and familiar support systems can make these challenges feel even heavier.

How Therapy Can Help

In our work together, we focus on:

  • Reducing anxiety and emotional overwhelm
  • Understanding intrusive or frightening thoughts
  • Rebuilding confidence in yourself as a parent
  • Processing grief around identity shifts
  • Strengthening communication with your partner
  • Creating emotional stability during pregnancy and postpartum
  • Building a sense of belonging in a new country

My goal is not to turn you into a “perfect mother” or “perfect father”. It is to help you feel grounded, capable, and connected again.

My approach is warm, calm, and collaborative. I use evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based techniques, and existential perspectives on identity and meaning.

Sessions are available online and in person in Utrecht, in English or Romanian. You do not need to minimise your struggles or pretend you are coping better than you are. Therapy is a space where you can speak honestly about the parts of parenthood that feel difficult, without shame.
